Supply chain owners and global manufacturers face substantial cost overruns and customer satisfaction issues due to supply chain disruptions. Their jobs are also characterized by constant, chaotic fire-drills. These leaders are actively searching for ways to reduce the probability and impact of any disruptions by using an intuitive user experience that allows them to absorb, interpret and act on these disruptions without losing valuable time and money. This will effectively lead to improved customer satisfaction due to improved customer order fill rates and reduced operating costs due to "situationally aware” decision making abilities. Companies that can improve their supply chain responsiveness will surpass their competition, leading to enhanced market share and profitability.

Background

Cognizant Accelerator discovers and amplifes the innovation that happens every day among Cognizant’s 275,000 associates, the Accelerator team runs LaunchPad, a six-month, twice-yearly program that creates well-rounded internal startups and well-crafted products through a structured process. Our highest priority is to build software that commands revenue by effectively solving meaningful problems for real people. The Accelerator’s product development process is based on Agile, LeanUX, and Sprint methodologies.

Our Team’s Challenge

Digital Supply Chain (Team G) participated in the inaugural Launchpad cohort, tackling a critical challenge in the face of today's dynamic market environment.

The Problem: Global supply chain systems are becoming increasingly complex and require high-velocity operations. However, disruptions are on the rise due to various factors, including severe weather events, trade tensions, policy uncertainties, evolving compliance regulations, demand and supply fluctuations, labor shifts, and pandemics. Businesses need a new approach to acquiring, modifying, reviewing, and utilizing real-time supply chain data to proactively mitigate disruptions and enhance service levels.

MVP (Event Snapshot)

Leveraging cutting-edge technology, CDSC compresses the event lifecycle, enabling users to pinpoint and pre-empt disruptions across the entire spectrum, from network visibility to rigorous mitigation planning. The ever-evolving Baseline view functions as a real-time intelligence hub, offering insightful forecasts and proactive alerts regarding potential route disruptions.

MVP (Event Snapshot)

The Event Snapshot flyout delivers a comprehensive overview of disruption impact, pinpointing affected suppliers, processes, and downstream consequences. A user-friendly timeline slider enables dynamic visualization of the disruption's ripple effect across the supply chain over time.

MVP (Recommendation Mode)

The actionable Recommendation Panel empowers users to rapidly evaluate and implement suggested actions. Both Event Snapshot and Recommendation Mode offer a full-screen option for maximized user experience.

Reflection — My final thoughts

While Digital Supply Chain is no longer operational, I remain immensely proud of my contributions to the project. It was a remarkably complex undertaking, requiring the initial establishment of a robust supply chain network before venturing into predictive event and distribution features. As anyone familiar with supply chain software knows, these projects tend to unveil unforeseen intricacies as development progresses. In retrospect, our initial MVP design proved overly ambitious, lacking the depth of research needed to fully navigate the inherent complexities. With more time and resources dedicated to thorough research, I believe we could have adjusted our approach and potentially secured additional funding.
